October 1942–April 1943
After qualifying as a “90-day wonder”—earning a commission from the U.S. Army Signal Corps—Lt. Irving Winkler’s first station was in Hawaii, from October 1942 to April 1943. Among his assignments in Hawaii were 13 film productions (documentaries and training films) and leading various still photo crews (covering everything from Chemical Warfare maneuvers to glamour girls).
About 200 35 mm color slides, taken on Hawaii during Winkler’s tour of duty there, have been digitized at 1200 dpi. Thumbnails of these can be viewed here.
